Donald Harvey Bartelt

March 5, 1927 - April 21, 2022

Donald Harvey Bartelt, age 95, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2022 at Eden Meadows in Oshkosh. On March 5, 1927 Donald was born in Oshkosh , the eldest son of the late Harvey and Anna (Lichtfuss) Bartelt. After graduating from Oshkosh High School, Don joined the Air Force at age 18 and served at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi from June 23, 1945 to November 23, 1946 as World War II ended. Don returned to Oshkosh and began an apprenticeship as a jeweler at Anger's Jewelry Store on Main Street. Don met Carol Mae Folletz through mutual friends and they were married on June 23, 1951 at Algoma Methodist Church in Oshkosh. Carol preceded Don in death after a lengthy illness on October 5, 2008. In the early 1960's Don joined Miller Clock Service and worked as the jeweler, clock maker and customer service person for over 65 years. He would always be ready to help customers with a jewelry repair, put in a new battery in their watch, or help fine tune an antique mantel clock. Don enjoyed being at the clock shop to stay active and visit with customers. Don was an enthusiastic golfer with his friends at Utica Golf Course and in the early days, bowling and being part of the Legion on the Lake Dance Club. Don loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to watch them play baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis and any sport that the kids enjoyed. Don was so happy to just be a part of having fun with the grandkids! He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by three sons, Jeffrey (Linda) Bartelt of Waupaca, Bruce (Amy) Bartelt of Franklin and Daniel (Paula) Bartelt of Beaver Dam; seven grandchildren, Nick (Katie) Bartelt of Rogers, AK, Letty (Ryan) Haase of Oshkosh, Kari (Ty) Malszycki of Appleton, Kim (Josh) Hoekstra of Beaver Dam, Ross Bartelt of Wauwatosa, Elsie Bartelt Maffey of Phoenix, AZ, and Annika Bartelt of Franklin; eleven great-grandchildren, Addison, Owen and Kody Hoekstra, Keegan and Logan Malszycki, Easton and Maddux Haase and Carson, Eli, Wilkes and Hollis Bartelt. Don was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Schroeder; brothers, Gerald and James Bartelt. Funeral services for Don will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Drive with the Rev. Roland Lindeman officiating. Burial will follow in Peace Lutheran Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the United Veterans Honor Guard. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of floral expressions, a memorial in Don's name will be established. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Eden Meadows, Oshkosh for their wonderful care, compassion and support of Don.
