Jeanne E. McCabe

Jeanne Eleanor (Schraa) McCabe passed away on April 20, 2022. She was born on March 22, 1930 in Oshkosh, WI to the late Clement and Beatrice (Kilbey) Schraa. Jeanne attended St. Peter and St. Vincent Grade Schools and then graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1948. In 1952, she graduated from WI State University, Oshkosh (UWO) with a Bachelor of Science degree. She married the love of her life, Milo F. McCabe of Oconomowoc, WI on August 25, 1956. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1987. Prior to her marriage, she taught Junior High School in Escanaba, MI and Senior High School in Oconomowoc, WI. Jeanne and Milo’s five children were all born in WI and Jeanne stayed home with them until the youngest was in 4th grade. She then went on to assist at the Middle and Senior High School libraries in Vermillion, SD and retired in 1992. Jeanne is survived by her son James (Gloria) McCabe of Live Oak, TX; daughter Tina (Ron) Buus of Montrose, MN; daughter-in-law Tammy McCabe of Streetsboro, OH; and daughter Peggy (Pete) Schmitz of Jefferson City, MT; Seven Grandchildren: Patrick, Austin (Jaime) and Sean McCabe, Amber Buus, Taylor McCabe and Kassi (Mitchell) McNeil and Luke Schmitz; Two great grandchildren: Paisley and Luca McCabe. She is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Donna McCabe and Correen Schraa along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and five brothers: Anthony, Clem, Tom, Jerry and Jim; sons Michael and Timothy; brothers and sisters-in law: Al McCabe, John (Peppi) McCabe, Sister Mary Milo McCabe, Shirley (Babbit) Czerwinski, Eddie (Tess) McCabe, Bill McCabe and Joan (Clem) Schraa. Jeanne was a woman always ready for an adventure whether it was hiking in the mountains, touring her family around historical Oshkosh, watching movies until 2am or going for a ride on a motorcycle or 4-wheeler. She was always busy bustling around her apartment or the home of one of her children, listening to an audiobook and sneaking her grandkids treats. She loved playing cards with her family and friends, always the high roller betting her quarters and inevitably still winning, even though we still aren’t sure she could actually see the cards. Jeanne was a very beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She was a strong and sweet lady who will be forever missed. Funeral services for Jeanne will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, 830 Westhaven Dr, Oshkosh, WI. A time of visitation will be held on Monday morning from 10:00am until the time of the service. Burial will take place at St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery in Oconomowoc, WI at a later date.
