Although Jeff and I are traveling in California I read about Carol's loss in her valient stuggle. We send our love and sympathies to all the families and I will be calling Carrie today to give her the sad news. Please hug Helene for us and give her our love.

Brian and family, we are so saddened by Carole's death and will miss her sorely. Carole was a calm and encouraging "coach" for us as new parents who worried about everything. We only wish Andrea and Sam could have had her as a teacher. Our prayers are with you.
I was lucky enough to have Mrs. McKnight as my teacher at Jacob Shapiro Elementary School for both 3rd and 4th grade. She was an amazing teacher and person. I hated school and didn't want to be there, but she always believed in me and I never forgot that. I wish she knew what a positive impact she had on my life. I am a better person today for the impact that she had on my life. My sincere condolences to the McKnight family.

I started teaching 4th grade at Jefferson in 1989. Carole was my next door neighbor and my mentor. She was passionate about students and about learning, particularly history. She taught social studies as a series of interesting adventures, bringing it to life for her 5th graders. I learned so much from her. The thing I remember most, though, is a quote from Thomas Jefferson which sums up her approach to education. "In matters of style, swim like a fish. In matters of principle, stand like a rock." She was very caring, but she was also one tough woman! Know that she lives on in the influence she had on so many students.

Carole was an enthusiastic member of our class of 1957 Corpus Christi High School. From her cheerleading days, to the female lead in our Senior Class play, "Our Town". I always enjoyed visiting the farm and in later years spending time with Carole at our many class reunions. Her suffering is over and she is in a much better place. Peace to her family!
