Carole Elaine McKnight's Obituary
Carole E. McKnight
Carole Elaine McKnight was born in Galesburg, Illinois on February 25, 1939, the daughter of James and Helene Enderlin. She is survived by her loving and constant friend and cherished husband of 29 years, Dr. Brian K. McKnight; her son, Richard Lofgren and daughter-in-law, Margaret and their children, Tierney and Sean; her step-sons, Scott (Nancy) and Kevin McKnight and her grandson, Brian McKnight; her mother, Helene Enderlin; sisters, Scherie Enderlin (Ronald) Lampe and Janice Enderlin; nephews, James (Katherine) Lampe and Douglas (Jacqueline) Lampe. Carole was preceded in death by her father, James Enderlin.
Carole Elaine loved and cherished every single day of her life. She lived her childhood years on a wonderful farm in rural Illinois. She took great pride in helping her father with the chores. Her deep and enduring sense of responsibility was evidenced in her daily life, professional life and her commitment to her family. Her adult life included a significant acting career and countless awards for professional speaking and teaching excellence. As a dedicated teacher for over 30 years, she devoted her wisdom, energy and love to countless students. She never forgot any of them and spoke of each one with dignity and pride. Carole remained strong and courageous throughout her life, so it was no surprise to the family and her friends that she would fight valiantly through a sixteen year struggle with cancer. She was determined to the end that her family and friends continue on with every day life and focus on the beauty of life rather than her condition. Her greatest joys in life revolved around her family and the countless family celebrations of birthdays, holidays and achievements. Less than 3 months ago she hosted Easter dinner for the entire family in a most gracious manner. She was tough, kind and thoughtful to the very end. Carole will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but she wished for us to celebrate life and focus on love and responsibility to each other and another. Her legacy is substantial.
