Alan David Horton's Obituary
November 15, 1951 – June 9, 2025
Alan Horton of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, went home to the Lord on Monday, June 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 15, 1951, in Oshkosh to Russell and Rose (Lautenschlager) Horton and remained a lifelong resident of the city he loved.
Alan attended Oshkosh High School before enlisting in the United States Army, where he proudly served in Germany as a semi-truck driver at West Point during the post–World War II occupation. Following his military service, he worked at Neenah Foundry in the Core Room until his retirement.
A lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, Alan married Carolyn (Dettlaff) on November 16, 1974. Though they later divorced in March 2018, their union was blessed with two children and two grandchildren.
Alan had a passion for golf and proudly earned multiple trophies for hole-in-ones. He was also a skilled and witty woodworker, an avid bowler, and a dedicated gardener. His love of fishing led to many cherished trips to Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Rose; his sister, Lauren Horton; and his former spouse, Carolyn (Dettlaff) Horton.
Alan is survived by his son, Mark (Bridget) Horton; his grandchildren, Jacob and Finn Horton; his daughter, Katie Horton; his brother, James Horton; his nephew, Travis Horton; and several cousins.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 N. Sawyer Street in Oshkosh.
