Aloysious A. Rivers' Obituary
Aloysious (Al) A. Rivers, 86, of Oshkosh went to be with Jesus on July 27, 2016. He was born
May 20, 1930 in Ripon, the son of Alex and Mary (Bartol) Rivers.
Al married his sweetheart, Lorraine M. Traxler on May 9, 1953, and lived in Oshkosh most of
their lives.
Al served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and worked at the U.S. Postal Service for 27
years. He always enjoyed working on his “mini farm” and gardening. He grew the best
tomatoes, strawberries, and raspberries, and shared his harvest with others. He was a loving and
caring husband, father, and grandfather who was always available when a helping hand was
needed. He shared his time, wisdom, and love with his family.
Al is survived by his 2 loving daughters Mary (Vern) DeWitt, Lori (Steve) Herman; his
grandchildren Joseph (Kelly) DeWitt, Katelyn DeWitt, Alyssa, Alex, and Andrew Herman; sister
Marie (Jim) Doctor; and nieces and nephews.
Al is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine; brother and sister-in-law Eugene (Dorene)
Rivers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 1, 2016 at St. Jude Parish (Sacred
Heart Church) on the corner of 6th & Knapp at 11 am. The Fr. Matt Simonar will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church from 9
am until the time of service.
A special thank you to all the staff at Evergreen Retirement Community for the loving, kind, and
excellent care they gave to Dad. They treated us like family and showed us support and love. In
lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at Evergreen Retirement Community
