Arthur W. Steinhilber's Obituary
Arthur W. Steinhilber of Oshkosh, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 after a short illness. He was born in Oshkosh on February 6, 1915, the fourth son of Otto and Clara (Hoffman) Steinhilber. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Erna, three brothers, Elmer, George and Lester, a nephew, George Steinhilber, Jr., and a niece, Kathryn Sickler.
Art was employed as a partner in the E. G. Steinhilber, Co., biological supply business and took pride in furnishing specimens, especially frogs to many research and educational facilities. The company received commendations from various cancer research laboratories.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and supported organizations like the Winnebago Conservation Club, the Upper Lakes Fishing Club, Ducks Unlimited, North America Wild Turkey Federation, the Wings Over Wisconsin and the Rush Lake Water Shed Restoration. Art also served with the U.S. Army, as Staff Sergeant during World War II in the European Theatre with the 95th Infantry Division. He received the Bronze Star for action in France. On September 19, 1946 he married Erna Sutter. She passed away on March 28, 1996. Art was also a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 292, V.F.W. Post 1908, South Side Yacht Club and the NRA.
Art is survived by his nieces and nephews: Jean DiOrio, Lee Steinhilber, Lois Steinhilber and Jack Steinhilber and his wife's nieces: Carole Potts, Donna Pavisic and Marlene Haber.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, January 11, 2009 in the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Ave., with Rev. Linda Kuhn officiating. Friends may greet the family from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, in the funeral home. An Elks Lodge #292 Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Inurnment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
