August P. Sosinski's Obituary
OSHKOSH - August P. Sosinski, 93, Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Aurora Medical Center with his daughters by his side. He was born in Oshkosh on August 1, 1924, to Joseph and Maggie Sosinski. August graduated from Oshkosh High School and immediately enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, stationed out of Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA. His tour of duty as a Marine Corporal Sharp-shooter Marksman included all of the Marshall Islands and securing the U.S. control of the hill at Ewa Jima. After the war, August returned to Oshkosh, and on June 28, 1947, married the love of his life, Verna Putnam of Oshkosh,at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. His long career as a machinist was at Bell Machine Industries.
August was a devote member of St. Peter’s Parish, now Most Blessed Sacrament Church, truly enjoyed singing in the church choir, and was a Life Time member of the Marine Corps League.
Survivors include his 3 children: daughter Mary Jo (Bill Bunting), California, son Paul Sosinski, Berlin, and daughter Carol Ann (Larry Rothe), Maryland, 5 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 7 brothers, 2 sisters, and his beloved wife Verna Sosinski.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter Catholic Church, 435 High Ave. in Oshkosh. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial with full military honors will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
