Burleigh R. McCarthy's Obituary
Burleigh Raymond McCarthy, age 92, of Oshkosh passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Aurora Medical Center from complications of cancer, pneumonia and Covid. He was born in Oshkosh at home on March 9, 1931 weighing over 11 pounds. He was the son of the late Chester and Esther (Missal) McCarthy.
Burleigh worked at Kienast Construction from age 16 to his retirement over 50 years later. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and with his lifelong experience and expertise he was known as one of the best Caterpillar operators in the area.
Burleigh met his wife Cheryl on a blind date and they were married in Lahaina, Maui on December 24, 1985. Together they had many hobbies and worked hard to care for their many pets. Burleigh raised and cared for miniature horses, alpacas, a donkey and many tropical birds. His special nap buddy, Eddie the cat, and dog ZsaZsa will miss him dearly.
Burleigh is survived by and will be forever missed by his wife, Cheryl. Also surviving are his brother, Dennis of Galena, Il, son Michael of Sturgeon Bay, daughters, Linda (Rick) Volkman of Palmer, AK, Sandy (Scott) Negendank of Oshkosh and 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, also nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son Gary, brothers Homer, Merwin, Chester Jr., and Darryl, sisters, Geraldine Kienast, Betty Losse and Gail Miller. He is also preceded in death by grandchildren Nathan and Nicole and his wives, Jean and Mary.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 9, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home (865 S. Westhaven Dr.). A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
