CAROL LUDWIG "FUZZY"'s Obituary
Carol Antoinette (Fuzzy) Ludwig
The beloved Carol Antoinette Ludwig, fondly known as “Fuzzy” by all those who know her, passed away on August 28, 2014. Fuzzy was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the only child of William and Marion Balnis. The specific date of her birth is known only by a few because Fuzzy appreciated the time when a proper lady did not reveal her age.
She graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in elementary education and an advanced degree in early childhood development from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She was a member of the Alethean sorority. After graduating, she taught second grade at Roosevelt School in Oshkosh and Elizabeth Waters in Fond du Lac. She left teaching for a time to marry the love of her life, Roger Ludwig, on June 23, 1962, and then raise their two children, Stacy and William.
Thankfully for many, Fuzzy did not leave teaching for long. With her children well set in school, she started teaching at and then became the co-owner of Jack and Jill Preparatory School along with her dear friend, Mary Beth Koelbl (“Miss Peachy”). For thirty seven years, Miss Fuzzy and Miss Peachy and their close knit bond of wonderful teachers taught over 3,000 three, four and five-year old children with much love and many hugs, preparing them for kindergarten and life. They taught the children the importance of kindness, manners and sharing while also teaching them their ABCs (in English, Spanish and sign language) and many other subjects. The children did aerobics, watched a chick hatch from an egg and listened with delight when Miss Fuzzy lovingly read them a story every day. Miss Fuzzy always looked forward to seeing Jack and Jill alumnae and hearing their success stories. When Jack and Jill closed its doors for the last time, hundreds of parents, current and former student attended the farewell party. Many students fondly remembered their time at Jack and Jill and all the important life lessons they had learned.
For Fuzzy, her family was most important to her; she was an extraordinary wife, mother and friend. She and her husband Roger, married fifty-two years, were a match made in heaven. They loved each other unconditionally, and their life together was filled with fun and laughter from the moment they met. They rarely spent time apart. Fuzzy’s children, Stacy and William absolutely adored her and for them, one of life’s greatest blessings was having her for a mother. Fuzzy also had many relatives and friends who loved her dearly and cherished her.
Fuzzy was perpetually positive; for her every cloud had a silver lining. She was a sage, and many sought her advice because she always seemed to have the right answers to any of life’s problems and situations. Fuzzy was a kind and sensitive soul, and she exuded a genuine goodness. Full of spunk, she lived joyfully. She was the consummate lady and had a real sartorial flare. She had a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor, often making people laugh without even trying. She was simply precious.
Fuzzy had many interests. She was most happy when she was with her husband and children. It was truly magical when the four of them were together, which they tried to be as much as possible. Fuzzy loved traveling with her family throughout the country and especially enjoyed visiting her children in Washington DC. She took great pleasure in watching sports with her husband and son and going to the theatre and art exhibits with her daughter. She was an enthusiastic card and Scrabble player, and it was difficult to beat her at any game. She loved to read, especially classic literature and plant a garden festooned with beautiful flowers every summer.
Her parents preceded her in death. Her husband Roger, her children Stacy and William and many nieces, nephews and cousins survive her. A mass celebrating Fuzzy’s life will be held at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church on September 3, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. with a visitation immediately preceding the service from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be a private internment, and a memorial is being established in Fuzzy’s name. Her family graciously requests that in lieu of sending flowers you contribute to her memorial.
