Carol Joy Brodsky's Obituary
Carol (Nelson) Brodsky, age 81 of Oshkosh passed away on May 25, 2015. She was born on December 24, 1933 a daughter of James and Augusta (Cobb) Nelson in Shorewood, WI. She graduated from Pulaski High School, Milwaukee, WI and Marquette University, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, and Minor in French. She then went on to teach at Marquette, while completing her Master’s Degree at Marquette University. In May of 1964, she married John James Coakley and moved to West Bend, WI. She then began her lifelong College English teaching career at the University of Wisconsin Washington County, where she shared her gift of teaching for 38 years. She motivated students with her persistent passion for learning, relating her own life experiences, while inspiring others to share her passion. She cared deeply about each student who passed through her classroom, giving career counsel and advice as needed. In June of 1989 she married Ernest Brodsky, moving to Oshkosh, WI and making her home there for the last 26 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lillian Picha, a brother-in-law, George Picha, her first husband John Coakley, and her niece, Patsy Picha. She is survived by and her memory will be cherished by her husband Ernest; her daughter, Carolyn (Peter) Suchocki, and granddaughters, Olivia Matenaer and Sophia Suchocki. She is also survived by Ernest’s children, Mike (Sheri) Brodsky, Pat (Lisa) Brodsky, Mary Ellen (Greg) Wright, Ernie Paul (Christy) Brodsky and Sue (Bob) Molash, other relatives and many dear friends. Funeral services for Carol will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 11 am in the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Ave. in Oshkosh. The Rev. Matt Simonar officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 am until the time of service.
