Charles Fritz Hyde, Jr's Obituary
Charles Fritz Hyde, Jr., age 89 of Oshkosh passed away Friday, November 13, 2009 in his home. On June 11, 1920 he was born the son of Charles Fritz Hyde Sr., and Grace Weindert in Orange. New Jersey and grew up in Maplewood, New Jersey. Fritz graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. During World War II he served as an officer in the United States Navy in both the European and Pacific Theaters of Operation. After the war he married Joyce Wyman of Oshkosh on June 28, 1946 at Trinity Episcopal Church of which they became lifelong members. In 1948 his father-in-law: Earl Wyman persuaded Fritz to take a sales job at Oshkosh B'Gosh. He worked for "the Overall" for 45 years, beginning as a salesmen in central Wisconsin and going on to lead the company for two decades before retiring in 1993 as chairman. Fritz is survived by Joyce, his wife of 62 years; his younger brother: Robert of Chatham, New Jersey; his brother-in-law: Thomas R. (Shirley) Wyman of Oshkosh; his children: Thomas (Martha) of Buffalo, New York; Douglas (Chrys) of Oshkosh and Margaret Wachtel of Oshkosh and six grandchildren: Emily Hyde, Michael Wachtel, Andrew W. Hyde, Anne Wachtel, Andrew M. Hyde and Sarah Hyde. A private memorial service will be held in the Trinity Episcopal Church and inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials have been established at the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation - 230 Ohio Street - Suite 100, Oshkosh, for the benefit of the Bays and Girls Club of Oshkosh, Trinity Episcopal Church or the Paine Art Center and Arboretim. Fritz will be remember as a civic and business leader and a generous benefactor of Oshkosh area organizations and charities.
