Clifford Warren Bunks' Obituary
Clifford Warren Bunks, age 95 of Appleton, formerly of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully of natural causes, on March 27, 2021, surrounded by his family. Clifford was born in Appleton, WI on March 7, 1926, attending Appleton High School graduating in the class of 1944, a three sport letter-earning athlete with multiple records. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving at Iwo Jima during WW II. He attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison, graduating with a degree in Business. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He married the former Joan Pankratz on July 29, 1950. They moved to Oshkosh when he was hired by Wisconsin National Life Insurance Company. He left there for a position at Dun and Bradstreet where he retired at age 60 from the Commercial Collections Division. Clifford was a faithful member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, now Most Blessed Sacrament Parish in Oshkosh. In addition to those memberships, he belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters, and American Legion Last Man's Club. He was a volunteer, taking on leadership roles in
the Boy Scouts, coaching baseball at St. Peter's, serving on the Red Cross disaster team, the EAA flight line, the Military Veteran's Museum and many other duties for both the parish and school of St. Peter's. Cliff was an avid golf and tennis player. He loved playing cards and taught his kids to play cribbage at a young age to teach them to add in their heads on a moments notice.
He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by children, Lisa (Joe) Loma, Lauren (Dan Lennon)Bunks and John (Jodi) Bunks; grandchildren, Tony (Katie) Putzer, Michelle (Aaron) Ravenwood, Christina (Felipe) Valdivia, Cassandra Bunks, John Bunks Jr., and Jena Bunks; great-grandchildren, Sam Putzer and Wes Putzer. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Caroline ( Dietzen) Bunks; his loving wife of 56 years, Joan on November 5, 2006; a son, Clifford Jr.; a grandson, Joseph Loma Jr.; a brother, Wesley Bunks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Cliff, (TODAY), Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 11:30 am in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter's Catholic Church, 435 High Avenue in Oshkosh, with the Rev. Jerome Pastors as celebrant. A time of visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 am until the time of Mass. Masks and social distancing will be observed. Live stream link available on Most Blessed Sacrament website at time of Mass. Military honors will follow the Mass at church. Burial will follow that at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Appleton. In lieu of floral expressions a memorial fund will be established at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the exceptional care that was given to Cliff on the last days of his life, especially Dr. Misty Johnson and Dr. Chris Wagner, along with the spiritual care provided by Father Jerry Pastors, Father Larry Seidl and Father Ryan Starks.
