Coreen "Cory" Marie (Strandell) Hughes, age 52, a beloved wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and devoted friend, died from complications of a lung infection at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Appleton, WI, on June 16, 2014. Her absence will be felt by many.
Cory was born May 17, 1962, in Milwaukee, WI, as the daughter of the late Kathleen Kelley-Carlson and John Strandell. She was a loving sibling to her sister and two brothers. She lived in Milwaukee and Cedarburg for her first 12 years until her family moved to Green Lake, WI, where she went to Green Lake School. Upon graduation, Cory attended UW Oshkosh.
Coreen met her husband, Timothy Hughes, while working at Butch's Anchor Inn in Oshkosh, WI. Cory and Tim married on September 30, 1989 in Green Lake at the Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She was a very loving and proud mother of her daughter Caitlin and son Shayne. Cory and Tim became proud proprietors of Tim's family business, Parnell's Place in Oshkosh, WI, where they have been successful owners for the past 25 years, with many caring employees and customers.
Cory thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, making every minute memorable and meaningful for all those that were a part of it. Cory loved having fun and being adventurous such as canoeing and camping in the Boundary Waters with her husband. She had a very generous heart and truly looked forward to giving gifts to families in need, especially during the holiday season.
When Cory was relaxing, she enjoyed walking her dog Abby, loving her animals at home, listening to country music, playing golf, camping, traveling, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, and she especially loved going boating. Every year, she looked forward to her family visits to Eagle River, WI, where she could enjoy many of her interests.
Coreen approached life with a positive attitude, a sense of humor, generosity, and had a very contagious, boisterous laugh that could be recognized by anyone that she talked with. Cory loved meeting and talking to new people. She always made an effort to take the extra time to get to know people and do what she could to help them.
Cory was preceeded in death by her mother, Kathleen-Kelley Carlson; mother-in-law, Suzanne (Kotschi) Hughes; grandparents, her grandparents Joseph and Catherine (Sheehan) Kelley and Mel and Beryl (Rumbold) Strandell, brother-in-laws Michael Miller and Darrell Ballweg.
Cory is survived by her husband of 24 years, Timothy Hughes, daughter, Caitlin Hughes and son, Shayne Hughes, all of Oshkosh; father, John (Joann) Strandell, Ripon; step-father, LeRoy Carlson, Green Lake; father-in-law Denny (Kathy) Hughes, Oshkosh; grandparents Adolph and Florence Kotschi, Oshkosh; one sister, Kelley (Jeremy) Thrasher, Green Lake; two brothers, Tim (Patty) Strandell, Racine and Scott (Linda) Strandell, Ventura, California; and four sisters-in-law: Christine (Steven) Dadas, Oshkosh; Lucy Hartl (Steve), Live Oak, Florida; Debbie Ballweg, Appleton; Cheryl Hughes, Tucson, Arizona.
Cory is further survived by her uncle and aunts, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, her Parnell's family of employees, and a multitude of dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial in Cory's honor. Visitation for Coreen Marie Hughes will be held at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Oshkosh, WI, on Saturday, June 21, 2014, from 8:00am until 11:00 am, followed by a memorial mass at 11:00 am.
