Daniel Henderson's Obituary
Daniel Allan Henderson, 50, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, went home to God Our Father and his heavenly family on Wednesday morning, October 23, 2013. He died unexpectedly surrounded by family and friends at Aurora Hospital in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Dan was born August 23, 1963, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the youngest son and child of Arthur and Dilys (Roberts) Henderson. He graduated from Xavier High School in Appleton in 1982. He went on to graduate from St. Norbert College in DePere in 1986. Dan was employed with UPS in Oshkosh for 22 years.
He was an active member of St. Jude’s Parish Sacred Heart site in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Dan was a special needs religious education teacher in Oshkosh for many years. He volunteered his time and talents at Father Carr’s Place 2Be as well. He actively participated in a variety of Catholic retreat and renewal programs including TEC and Cursillo.
Dan was a very devout and faith filled Christian. He was humble, selfless and compassionate especially to those in need and children. He always put others first. Dan loved the outdoors including hiking, camping, biking and running. He was very health conscious. Dan was a Christian poet, loved rainbows, campfires and dogs.
He was very proud of his Welsh heritage and ancestry. Family and friends were at the center of his life, with his family extending well beyond his own to include many whom he cherished and loved. Dan was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews. He rarely missed an opportunity to participate in their lives and personal interests/activities. He was fondly known as “Uncle Danny”.
Dan is survived by his father, Arthur Henderson of Redgranite; his sister, Diana (Greg) Van Rybroek of Madison and their children, Dirk, Anneke and Marieke; his brother Greg (Susan) of Fond du Lac and their children, Hannah and Evan; aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Dilys; grandparents, aunts and uncles.
His family would like to thank Dan’s friends in Christ as well as the ICU staff at Aurora Hospital in Oshkosh for their fellowship, kindness, support and care during Dan’s final days on earth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 26, 2013 at 11am at St. Jude Parish (Sacred Heart Church) on the corner of 6th & Knapp. Oshkosh, WI 54902.
Friends and family may visit from 4 – 8 pm on Friday October 25, 2013 at the Fiss & Bills Funeral Home at 865 S. Westhaven Drive. Oshkosh, WI 54904. Visitation also will be held at the church on Saturday from 10am until 11am.
Memorial funds will be established for SERV (Special Education Religion Voice) at Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Father Carr’s Place 2B in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
