David M. Skoglind's Obituary
David Skoglind, beloved father and husband
David Skoglind, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on November 8, 2024. He was 66.
David was born on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1958, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to John “Jack” and Nancy Skoglind. David (“Skogs” to his friends) attended Lourdes High School and later pursued a career in law, graduating from Baylor Law School in 1982. He dedicated himself to pursuing excellence on behalf of all those he represented during his time as a lawyer in Texas and Wisconsin, and served a term as the President of the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers.
In 1978, David married Joan Lescke, with whom he shared 24 years of marriage and four lovely daughters: Kristin, Allison, Jennifer, and Elizabeth. Together, they raised their children with love and sought to instill values of hospitality and kindness in them. Though David and Joan later divorced, they maintained a bond through their children and shared many treasured memories.
In 2005, David married Rhonda Hawkins, with whom he found renewed companionship, and became a stepfather to two daughters, Brittany and Jackie. David and Rhonda spent the last 19 years together, sharing a love of home-cooked meals and quiet nights at home. Her unwavering support, especially as his health began failing, was a source of great strength to him.
David was known for his quick-witted sense of humor and his deep love for all things sports. He never missed a Packers or Badgers game! One of his lesser-known loves was photography, and his favorite place to spend time was on the beaches of Mexico. Whether he was coaching his girls on the basketball court or advocating for his clients in court, David always had a heart for the underdog. Though David was never a big fan of his smile, to those who knew him, his smile always had a way of lighting up the room.
David is survived by his wife, Rhonda Skoglind; his children, Mark and Kristin Beauchamp (45) and their children Oscar, Piper, Bo, and Selah Beauchamp, Allison Skoglind (42), Chris and Jennifer Caylor (41) and their son Roman, and Elizabeth Skoglind (31); his stepchildren, Brittany Nieman and her children Adrian, Alex, Xavier, and Wynter, and Jackie and Josh Brown and their son Hudson; his siblings, Mike Skoglind, Jeffrey Skoglind, and John Skoglind; and many loving friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Nancy Skoglind, and sister, Amy Skoglind.
A celebration of David’s life will be held in a private ceremony on November 14, 2024, with his family and friends.
