It was a privilege and honor for me to be a colleague and friend of Doran. Spending time with Doran was such a treat. His warm and glowing smile was infectious. I had nothing but great admiration for Doran for his dedication to his family, faith and profession. My heart goes out to Helen and their beautiful family and pray that they find peace as they grieve this momentous loss. May you RIP Doran, you will surely be missed.

From the first time I met Doran, we developed a special bond of friendship as brothers, which far exceeded any professional admiration or relationship. Our friendship spanned both years and distance .. never faltering. My life, and Marilyn's life, was better because Doran so unconditionally shared his life with us. I love you, Doran, and know that you are now playing CF for the God Squad in Heaven. May God rest your precious soul.

I spent many years as one of Dr. Ryan’s patients. He was so kind and we always had fun to help make the pain less. Such a great sense of humor and wonderful bedside manner. I have so many great memories of him from Froedert and having the privilege of being friends with him on Facebook. My sympathies go out to the entire family for God has received an angel. I was saddened to hear about Doran's passing. While our only memories are from the game we love, baseball, there are many that will be cherished forever. Doran was the consummate team player, always with a positive attitude. Playing in Cooperstown with Doran, Mike, Kevin and Tim was always a pleasure and the best part of the entire baseball season. Of course with Helen and Laura as our biggest and sometimes only fans. I love the Ryan family and will miss Doran's smile, calm attitude, humility and emails. It was a true honor calling Doran a friend. God bless the entire family at this time of loss and I look forward to seeing Doran "on the otherside".

I spent 4months with Doran in ‘83, from Nov-Feb, in the frozen north(fm Florida). It was the warmest winter of my life, because of Doran. He made me part of his Milwaukee family (a visiting resident from Miami ). He took me downtown to play full-court basketball with some of his friends. I’m in my late 20’s; Doran has to be 40. I learned a bit of humility that evening. The guy was a stone-cold killer on the court!
He taught me how to have that same humility with the most difficult patients, who seem to be the majority of his patients (he saw everyone else’s surgical “misadventures”).
He and Helen had me in his home. They set me up with a charming young lady(I was single at the time). This time in Milwaukee was the highlight of my residency.
Our world is a bit less bright today, with Doran’s spirit being gone. But that same spirit shines in Heaven today.
I look forward to the day I can get the man on a heavenly basketball court, with my new body; maybe then I can hang with him...
