Doreen G. Samida's Obituary
Doreen G. Samida, age 75, of Oshkosh passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at her residence with her daughter Dawn, Grand-daughter Kristy and Grandson Austin at her side. She was born in Oshkosh on November 20, 1942 the daughter of Lynn and Leona (Boehm) Hall.
Doreen is survived by two sons, Donald Jr (Valerie Villarreal) Samida of Berlin and Daniel (Melissa Sanvidge) Samida of Oshkosh. One daughter, Dawn (Paul Pickart) Swartz of Oshkosh. One brother, James (Sharon) Hall of Orlando, FL. Three sisters, Gwen (James) Bleuer of Omro, Joan (Dale) Brunner of Wittenberg and Wanda Hall of Oshkosh. Eight grandchildren, Kristy, Brandon, Kelsey, Carey Jr, Austin, Troy, Adam and Jason. Four great grandchildren, Alyza, Kalla, Savannah and Annakah.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald in 2003 and one sister, Sandy.
After graduating from Oshkosh High School she worked in numerous factories such as Standard Kollsman, paper and box, and Mondls Shoes. In 1977 she landed a job at Hoffmaster Company packing napkins until she went to Milwaukee for training to become a fluted machine operator (she was very proud of that college credit she received) She retired in 2004.
In her younger years she played women’s fast pitch softball for the Powder Puff Girls. Her daughter learned how to catch her pitches quickly after having to retrieve the ball 2 blocks down the street multiple times. She was even the umpire for the Cub Scouts. She loved the outdoors, taking walks esp with her great grand-daughter Alyza. Being in the woods at the Cabin, fishing, sitting in the sun, cookouts, bonfires and eventually camping with her grandkids. She bowled for many years at Shoreview Lanes.
Her and her best friend Darlene Williamson (RIP) loved to take off to one of the casino’s to gamble esp when the weather was bad.
She enjoyed going to Georges Gaslight daily to visit with Jan, Wendy and the crew it was very frustrating that she could no longer get out daily.
She was a big sports fan. She was always watching women’s softball, bowling, any football and baseball esp the Packers and the Brewers. Since 2005 most Super Bowl’s were spent with her daughter at George’s Gaslight.
She was always looking forward to her monthly Pizza Ranch get together with the “girl’s”

The family would like to give a special thank you to all her caregivers: grandson Austin who helped her daily, Jessica Radig who helped so Dawn could work or take a break. Grand-daughter Kristy who would drive 3 hours to help. Mercy Medical Center doctor’s and Nurses esp Dr. Larson (mom really liked you) hospitalists and PCU 2, Eden Meadows Stephanie NP and staff, Affinity Visiting Nurses esp Amy, Dawn and Patty. Hospice RN Brad. You all did a wonderful job caring for her. If it wasn’t for all of you she wouldn’t have been with us this long.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 3 pm at the Fiss & Bills Funeral Home at 865 S. Westhaven Drive. Oshkosh, WI 54904. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home from 1 pm until the time of service.
