Doris Ann Allen's Obituary
Doris Ann (Hergert) Allen, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Serenity Garden, Bethel Home. Doris was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1926, in Oshkosh, the daughter of Philip and Anna Marie (Lautenschlager) Hergert. Doris was a graduate of Oshkosh High School, and on February 9, 1946 she married Douglas Allen, who preceded her in death on May 26, 1989.
Doris was a great mom and a spectacular grandmother and great-grandmother! She enjoyed spending time with the kids, sharing their activities and encouraging them in all they did. Whether it was cheering them on in sports, attending school and church events and programs or simply playing games and having fun, there were never any losers.
Doris worked part-time while her girls were growing up and later joined the full-time work force at Oshkosh National Bank. She started as a temp cashier trainee and was soon hired to a full-time position, eventually working her way up to Vice President. She was rightly very proud of this accomplishment.
After retirement and the death of her husband Doug, Doris enjoyed traveling and line dancing with many friends. She especially enjoyed dancing and spending time with her "dance partner" Jerry Hesselink. Together they enjoyed many years of dancing and friendship. She often referred to Jerry as her "best friend.” Their friendship continued all the way up to her passing as Jerry visited her regularly, spending quality time with her.
Doris is loved and will be missed by her daughters Carol "Sue" Hornacek and Sylvia “Sib” Gallas and her brother Bob (Judy) Hergert. She is further survived by her grandchildren Doug (Dawn) Hornacek, Mike (Debbie) Hornacek, Robert (Jennifer) Hornacek, Jessica (Christian) Trauth and Jacob Gallas, as well as great-grandchildren Landon & Morgan "Maggie" Hornacek, Marcus, Daniel, John & Charles Hornacek, Eden & Avery Hornacek and Sebastian Trauth. She will also be deeply missed by her "best friend" Jerry Hesselink, her many nieces and nephews and friends and former co-workers who will remember her fondly.
Doris was preceded in death but her parents Philip & Anna Marie Hergert, brothers Marvin & Warren, sisters-in-law Margaret & Elizabeth "Boots" Hergert, nieces Susan Kay Hergert & Patricia "Pat" Hergert Barney and nephew Raymond Hergert.
The funeral service for Doris will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 3 p.m. in Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home at 865 S. Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI 54904. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of service.
A memorial is being established in Doris's name at the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation - Alzheimer's Association of Greater Wisconsin Fund.
Doris's family would especially like to thank the staffs at Elijah's Place, Affinity Hospice Care and Serenity Garden at Bethel Home. Their loving care and devotion will be remembered and appreciated always. The fantastic staff and residents at Serenity Garden made her days joyful and the best they could be.
