Dorothy Hentz Hammer's Obituary
Dorothy Hentz Hammer, age 98, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Oshkosh. Dorothy was born in Bowler, WI on August 22, 1920 to the late Martin and Mary (Jaeger) Reisenweber. She married Francis Hentz on March 21, 1943. Fran preceded her in death in 1974. She got remarried on July 15, 1979 to Joseph Hammer.
Dorothy graduated from Bowler High School and after graduation she attended Oshkosh Teacher’s College, Lincoln Institute, and Oshkosh Vocational School. She went on to teach in a one-room school at Bowler before going to work for the Navy Department at the Pentagon during WWII. After the war she and her husband returned to Wisconsin and started their family.
Dorothy is survived by 2 sons; Ronald (Naoko) and Randy (Sharon) Hentz, 1 daughter; Kate (Roger) Anderson, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her 2 husbands; Francis Hentz and Joseph Hammer, her parents, 1 son; Richard “Rick” Hentz, who remains missing in action in Vietnam, and 5 sisters; Ethel Dies, Marie Arndt, Frances Beaudoin, Edna Wetzel, and Clara Kucksdorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 11 a.m. in St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church 830 S. Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, WI 54904. Father Tom Long will be the celebrant. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
