Dorothy A. Muza's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Dorothy A. (Fleming) Muza of Oshkosh on April 3, 2025 at the age of 95 at Evergreen Retirement Community. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 11, 1929, to parents Harry and Irene (Hanish) Fleming.
Dorothy “Dottie, Dot” was raised in the Park Falls/Phillips Wisconsin area, graduated Phillips High School in 1947, and then graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Marshfield, Wisconsin in 1950. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh.
She met John J. Muza (deceased August 8, 2011) when a friend needed a second person for a double date. Dot volunteered, and then Dot and John married on June 14, 1952 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Beloit, WI. Together they raised five children.
Dottie was part of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish at the St. Mary site. She was an active member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Ladies, Oshkosh Meals on Wheels, Lake Shore Ladies’ Golf League, St. Joseph School of Nursing Alumni and Learning in Retirement group at Evergreen. She and her husband John were avid golfers! Dottie enjoyed her travels with John, her children, grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed church activities, sewing, knitting, reading, and did we mention she loved golfing? She also enjoyed years of watching football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer games, musicals, softball games, dance competitions and plays.
She is survived by her children, James Muza of Sierra Madre, CA, Mary Muza of Oshkosh, Barbara (Paul) Muza Reed of Oshkosh, Mike (Lexine) Muza of Oshkosh, Dan Muza of Oshkosh; grandchildren Patrick (Meghan) Muza, E-5 Sam Muza, Amie (Darrin) Muza Teskey, Dr. Katie Reed, Dr. Madeline (Nathan) Reed Jones, Michaela (Tyler) Muza-Hendrix, Jensen Muza; great-grandchildren Henry Hendrix and Ellie Muza; sister-in-law Sylvia Fleming of Janesville, WI, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John Muza, brothers Keith and John Fleming, sisters-in-law Mary Ann Fleming, Helen Schuster, Mary (Choppy) Rutz, and Elaine Muza, brothers-in-law Leo Muza, Herbert Rutz, and Alois Schuster and granddaughter Vanessa Muza Teskey Hawkins.
A memorial mass will be held at the St. Mary’s site of Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Oshkosh on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at St. Mary’s Church at 9:30 am until Mass.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Evergreen Retirement Community for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, Dorothy requested donations be made to St. Mary Parish of Oshkosh or the American Cancer Society.
