Douglas C. Villars' Obituary
Douglas Christian Villars passed away on June 4, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family, after a three-year journey with cancer.
Doug was born on September 29, 1982 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Mark Villars and Kris Villars. Doug was a 2001 graduate of Oshkosh West High School.
Doug started his career in real estate with his mother, owner of her own franchise, RE/MAX on the Water in 2014. Eventually taking over as Broker/Owner and continuing his mother’s legacy in 2019. Both Doug and Kris liked to say he had been in real estate since he was 3 years old.
In true fashion, following in his mother’s footsteps, Doug quickly embraced the real estate industry and dove into various committees, boards, and networking groups. He was the 1st Recipient of the Kris Villars Award of Excellence in 2019 and was also awarded the 2020 WHBA Associate Member of the Year. Doug’s passion and knowledge helped develop him into a true leader in the industry as well as respected amongst the community and his peers. His ease to develop and maintain relationships was a true gift.
Although he didn’t know it then, Doug met the love of his life, Nicole, in 2007 at Barley & Hops. In 2012 their paths crossed again, and their story began. They were married September 3, 2016 and welcomed their son, Ethan Christian Villars on December 6, 2018. Doug fell into the husband and father role very naturally and loved it. Doug himself had a very special bond with his father, Mark. They would often be each other’s sounding board, and they were blessed to have a friend in each other. His last Sunday on Earth Doug had committed to do a reading at church. Although he wasn’t feeling the best, he escorted his young family to church.
Doug grew up playing hockey and later in life coached Oshkosh Youth Hockey. He enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling, fishing with his dad in the Eagle River area and getting together with the Beer30 guys on Saturdays. Doug’s character was laid back, yet he had the ability to discuss any topic with anyone and respect their differences without judgement. His outgoing personality was contagious, and lives are richer for knowing him.
Doug is survived by his wife, Nicole (Markee) Villars and son Ethan Villars, parents Mark and Nancy Villars of Oshkosh. Mother-in-law Denise Markee, brother-in-laws Blake (Brittany) Markee & Hunter Markee. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother Kris Villars, father-in-law Bill Markee, Aunt Pam Dougherty, Grandparents Bill & Karen Killian and Carl & Eileen Villars.
Doug’s family would like to thank the Aurora Oncology team who treated him like family. This was shown during his last visit. Hugs and tears flowed down everyone’s face as they escorted Doug out of the building. His wife Nicole would like to thank their family and friends as well as Doug’s colleagues who supported him through his journey.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions for Ethan’s future.
Funeral Services for Doug will be held at 4pm on Friday, June 11th at Wesley United Methodist Church, 761 Florida Ave, Oshkosh, WI. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday afternoon at the church from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
