Edward Luther's Obituary
Edward Marlin Luther, age 92, of Oshkosh, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Bethel Home. Edward was born on June 6, 1916 in Weyauwega and was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Oshkosh. Edward was married to Margaret E. Nigl on June 25, 1938 and they lived on 9th Avenue for over 60 years. On February 26, 2008 he lost Margaret, the love of his life. In his earlier years Ed served on St. Raphael's cemetery board and was president of the Local # 291 at Rockwell International and was a member of the Rockwell Club for over 25 years. He and Margaret traveled to New Holstein and worked for the Salvatorian Mission for many years. During his earlier years also, he greatly enjoyed hunting, and living life to the fullest.
His memory will be cherished by six children, Faye (Jim) Helstrom of Oshkosh, Gary (Marianna) Luther of Hartland, Jean (Michael) Heath, of Fridley, Minnesota, Glen (Nancy) Luther of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dennis Luther of Wautoma and David (Nancy) Luther of Duncanville, Texas. He is further survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Maude (Hazen) Luther; two brothers, Ken (Ruth) Luther, Ray (Ruth) Luther; and a sister, Geraldine.
A Mass of Chirstian Burial will be held for Ed on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 830 South Westhaven Drive with the Reverend Father Doug Le Captain as celebrant. Burial will follow next to his beloved wife Margaret in Riverside Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Avenue on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and also again at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorials in Ed's name may be made to the Salvatorian Mission in New Holstein, Wisconsin 53061.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Bethel Home Skilled Care Unit for the wonderful care that Ed recieved during the past year, and to granddaughter, Janet Helstrom. Edward, may perpetual light shine upon you, and may you rest in peace. Amen.
