Elaine M. Stein's Obituary
Elaine Marie Stein was born in Oshkosh, Wi on September 17, 1925. Her parents were Lester and Emily Zellmer. Elaine married Thomas Stein on May 6, 1950, at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church. Thomas preceded her in death on May 15, 2008.
Elaine was an accomplished Seamstress. She enjoyed playing cards and volunteering at The Grand Opera House. She was an avid Green Bay Packer and Brewer fan. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was passionate about baking and sewing. She spent many years teaching her grandchildren these crafts. They frequently were together working on all kinds of projects. She also enjoyed attending their sporting and music events.
Elaine had 3 children: Peter (Carol) Stein, Mary (Ron-deceased) Sonntag, and Robert (Janet) Stein. She had 5 grandchildren: Jodi (Tim) Thorpe, Tina (Tom) Lemke. Ben (Jaime DeBartolo) Stein, Katelyn (David) Schreiber and Joe (Sarah) Tretter. She had 6 great grandchildren (along with a 7th due in July, 2024): Wyatt Thorpe, Aubrey Thorpe, Trey Lemke, Zac Lemke, Boden Lemke, and Olivia Lemke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 5 brothers: Richard (Winifred) Zellmer, Thomas Zellmer, Lloyd (Joann) Zellmer, Robert (Irma) Zellmer, and Charles (Mary Ellen) Zellmer. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Joan (Frank) Grota.
Elaine was survived by many nieces and nephews, and friends. Special friends were Mary (Jerry-deceased) Rieckoff of Lake Nebagamon, Wi.
The Visitation and Service will be held at St. Jude the Apostle Parish (1225 Oregon St. Oshkosh) on Tuesday, January 30,2024. The Visitation will begin at 9:30am until the time of the Service at 11:00am.
The family would like to thank the staff at Gabriel’s Villa, Ascension Hospital, and the Hospice nurses, who all took such good care of Elaine. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial has been established.
