Elena Hoetschl's Obituary
Elena Hoetschl, 73 years old, of Oshkosh, WI, passed away on April 25, 2022, after a brief battle with lymphoma cancer at St. Luke's hospital in Milwaukee. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed.
Elena was born on April 23, 1949 to Leonardo Yamson and Rita Erodita Sancho in Cebu, Philippines. In 1976, she met the love of her life, Chris Hoetschl, and despite interference by the Navy, they were married in the Philippines. Elena joined her husband in the U.S. where they spent 45 years proving the naysayers wrong.
Elena worked in the service industry, where her radiant smile, playful nature, and sincere effort to bring happiness to others touched many lives. She was a devoted mother, teaching her children faith, honesty, and compassion, staying close even as the children grew older. She brought the family together with weekly Sunday dinners of delicious Filipino dishes, and guests were always welcome. She was an excellent gift giver, always knew the right thing to say, brought smiles and laughter to all around her, and was a constant inspiration to her husband and children. Elena was gifted with wisdom, grace, an infectious sense of humor, selflessness, and overflowing love.
Elena was an active member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church. She never missed Sunday mass and enjoyed attending spiritual gatherings with husband and close friends. When she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found outside in her flower and vegetable gardens, or spending time with her kids and grandkids. She greatly enjoyed harvesting and sharing enormous amounts of fresh veggies with friends and family.
Elena was preceded in death by her parents and one brother and sister.
She is survived by her husband Chris, 4 children, 6 grandchildren, one great grandchild as well as brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and family in both the U.S. and the Philippines. The family wishes to thank many who have extended financial, prayer and emotional support for Elena during her final days.
The family requests that flowers and memorial donations be sent to St. Raphael Catholic church. There will be a celebration of life at St. Raphael Catholic Church on Tuesday May 3, 2022, with visitation from 10am-12pm, church service from 12-12:45pm, procession and burial at Riverside Cemetery from 1-1:30pm, and luncheon back at St. Raphael Catholic church in Good Samaritan Hall from 1:30-4pm.
