Elizabeth "Betty" Geiger's Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Geiger Sawtell was born May 8, 1916 to Dr. and Mrs Emil D. Geiger, in Canton, Illinois. She attended high school in Canton, graduating in 1933. Betty graduated from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. After working in Chicago at the extension of the Northwestern Settlement House, Betty married John R. Sawtell in 1938. They moved to Oshkosh, where Betty was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Service League, Curative Workshop of the Visiting Nurse Association, Leisure Hour Art Club, Study Class, Friendly Visitors Program-visiting shut-ins and nursing home residents. Betty served as a nursing aide in WWII, served on the Altar Guild at Trinity, the flower committee and was a church school teacher. In Lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Affinity Hospice and Trinity Episcopal Church. Betty is survived by her son, John of Milwaukee, and daughter Sarah "Sally" and her husband Richard Johnson of Green Bay. She is also survived by her grandson Richard Johnson his wife Nicole, Wauwatosa, and great-grandchildren Camden and Elliana, and grandson William Johnson, Fond du Lac. A celebration and memorial will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Oshkosh, on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11am. Father Steven Powers will be the celebrant. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Episcopal Cathedral in Fond du Lac.
