Elvira Mary Cunningham's Obituary
Elvira Mary Cunningham died peacefully at home April 19, 2017. She was born June 4, 1927 to John and Clara (Krynicki) Iglewski. She graduated from Bowen High School (where she played the French Horn). Mercy Hospital Nursing School in Chicago, IL and went on to post graduate course in Pediatric Nursing from Cincinnati University of Ohio. Elvira became head nurse in the Pediatric Unit of Mercy Hospital in Chicago where she met her husband Thomas Cunningham, MD. They were married December 27, 1952 and were blessed with 7 children; Thomas, John, Ellen Verstegen, Patrick, Paul, Michael and Miriam, 9 grandchildren and 8 (soon to be 9) great grandchildren. Elvira worked in the newborn nursery at Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh. She owned the Brooklyn Boutique on South Main Street, Oshkosh and sold real estate with the Schwab Realty/Coldwell Banker Company. Elvira is preceded in death by her parents, her brother John and 2 sons, Paul and John. She was a person of innocent and beautiful nature. When asked in a Power of Attorney document what would be her final words to family and friends, she wrote: "Thank you all. It's been a great life! I love you all !" Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11 am at St. Jude Parish (Sacred Heart Church on the corner of 6th & Knapp). Father Matt Simonar will be the celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9 am until the time of Mass. Committal services will be held at Riverside Catholic Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Elvira's name.
