Emily M. Goddard's Obituary
Emily M. Goddard, age 78, of Combined Locks, was welcomed into heaven in God's caring arms at Cherry Meadows Hospice facility after a courageous battle with pancreatic and kidney cancer on Sunday morning January 13, 2019. She was born on January 3, 1941 in Oshkosh, a daughter of the late John and Emily Baumgartner. She married Thomas W. Goddard on November 9, 1963 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Tom preceded her in death on March 8, 2002. Emy and Tom lived in Brillion, WI most of their lives and both had worked for and retired from the Ariens Company, she after 35 years of service. She was very active in her church, Bethany Lutheran in Kaukauna and after her husbands death she developed a deep love for volunteering and helping others. This volunteering included 17 years at both Appleton Medical Center and Theda Clark Regional Medical Center volunteer auxillary's having served three terms as president. Her deep appreciation of veterans and out of her love and respect for them and her husband's service in the US Army, she was a life member of VFW and was a past member of the Cooties 29 and had served as Cooties president. She faithfully worked at the VFW Post 2778 of Appleton for Friday fish fry evenings for many years. Emily was a member of the Civic League at the Thompson Center in Appleton working monthly pot-lucks and was the sunshine chairperson. She was a life member and volunteer at the Thousand Acres Nature Center and loved time spent there. Member of the Heart of the Valley Senior Service Club and led Rainbows for widows and widowers. Emily led a small red hat group for the past 17 years. Another love of hers was her time and dedication to the EAA Warbirds Cafe having volunteered there for the past 17 years. Several of her favorite high lights were being taken by the arm by surprise and taken several times on war bird adventures in the sky for an hour or so and meeting up close and personal with the likes of war bird enthusiasts such as country music star Aaron Tippin. Emily really enjoyed traveling also and had visited all 50 states including much of Canada. Her favorite travel locations were Maine, Nova Scotia and Branson, MS. When she had any “free” time she enjoyed line dancing and breakfasts with her girlfriends. She greatly enjoyed gardening and yard work also and cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren following their many events.
She is survived by and her memory will be cherished by her son, Thomas W. (Julie Wahlberg) of Oshkosh, a daughter, Faye L. (James) Burg, Chilton; five grandchildren, Tom (Miranda), Kristy (Zach), Kayde (Caleb), Kody (Sammi), and Kasey. Great-grandchildren, Braeden, Brieley and Madeline. She is further survived by other relatives and some very special friends, Judy W., Jane K., Sue K.,Kay L.,Kathy N., Shirley Z., Pat M., and special neighbors, Roland and Lori.
A memorial service celebrating her life of giving to her family and others will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 11:00 am in Bethany Lutheran Church, 124 W. 10th Street in Kaukauna. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of service. In lieu of floral expressions, a memorial fund will be established. Emily and her family wish that special thanks be extended to her long time family physician, Dr. Curtis C. Baltz and staff, especially Laurel, and also to Dr. Edison of Surgical Associates, Dr. Attassi of Urological Associates, Dr. Klinkhamer of Theda Care Cancer Center and Dr. Kaeper in Nephrology for their care and concern for Emily's health and to the wonderful staff at Cherry Meadows for the genuine care and compassion that was given to Ms. Emily and family while she was there. You are amazing!! You will never be forgotten! Mom entrusted her care in her final months and weeks and funeral arrangements to her son Tom at Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Homes of Oshkosh.
