EMILY B SALZSIEDER's Obituary
Emily Salzsieder, 18, of Oshkosh WI left us to be with God our Heavenly Father on December 5th, 2017.
Emily was born on October 30th, 1999 in Oshkosh, WI, the daughter of Mike Salzsieder and Sarah (Schettl-Salzsieder) Smits. She was our little miracle baby, a little over 2 lbs. when she came into this world and she proved to be a fighter.
Emily was a senior at Oshkosh West High School. She was known for putting her whole self into the things she did. She was involved in several school clubs; she was a DARE role model, she worked with “Connected” - a program for students with special needs, and she was involved in “Project West” to help incoming freshman. Emily also enjoyed working at Stein’s and volunteering at Evergreen and the Humane Society.
Emily will be remembered most for her always caring and tender spirit and amazing strength that she showed every day despite her struggles with depression. Emily had a big heart and was always there to support and encourage others, especially those who she felt needed it the most. She had a knack for sensing when others were struggling and was never afraid to reach out and provide comfort. It didn’t matter what time of day, Emily was always there for you with a smile on her face and twinkle in her eye.
Emily enjoyed every ounce of nature and animals. Growing up she would often be found outside gathering treasures, even insects and worms were treasured. She would notice the little things in life and be in awe of the beauty that is often overlooked.
Emily dearly loved animals and always wanted to save them. She looked forward to spending time with her favorite pet rats, Hazel and Tessa. Emily would often be found wrapped up in blankets and cuddling with her family dogs Zoe, Molly, and Lokie.
Although Emily was quiet, inside she had an enormous amount of creativity. Emily was an emotional writer and brought the reader right into what she was feeling. Emily also loved to be creative in the kitchen, drawing, and playing guitar. She enjoyed long boarding with her sisters, making succulent arrangements for her family and friends, and taking family trips.
Emily, thank you for your courage to always choose kindness and for your wisdom to always see the good in others. You will be deeply missed and never forgotten. May our angel Emily always be looking down upon us with a smile.
Emily is survived by her parents, Sarah (Brett) Smits and Mike Salzsieder; sisters Hannah Salzsieder, Meagan Smits, Breana Smits, and brother Will Smits; grandparents Don and Cheryl Schettl, Mary Ellen Salzsieder, and Larry and Gail Smits; God Parents Paul and Kim Makurat , many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. Emily is preceded in death by her grandpa “Nubs” Salzsieder.
A Memorial Mass for Emily will be held in St Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (Sacred Heart worship site) on Saturday December 9, at 11:00 AM with the Rev Matt Simonar officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 AM until the hour of services.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
