ETHEL PENZENSTADLER's Obituary
Ethel Adeline Penzenstadler, 103 + years old passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Park View Health Center where she resided for five years. Ethel was born on January 15, 1911 the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Schafer Geiger. She graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1929.
One of her first jobs was working at Nichols Candy Store on Merritt Ave. where she learned how to fry raw Spanish peanuts, a special treat for her. At age eighteen she was employed at the telephone company. She worked at “Ma Bell” for thirty-seven years, four and one half months and four days retiring as Chief Operator on June 30th, 1966 at the age of fifty-five.
She married the love of her life, John Henry Penzenstadler on May 6th, 1930 and they enjoyed fifty-three years of making memories with traveling, sharing household duties and getting together with family and friends.
After retirement she decided to learn to knit, crochet and sew. She mastered all of these and in time created many beautiful articles of clothing, quilts and afghans that were given to family.
She was an active member of St. Vincent Catholic Church and enjoyed belonging to the Telephone Pioneers, Valley Prestige, Telephone Anniversary Club and the Funster Club.
Ethel is survived by her nieces, Sandy Ebel, Joan Kinderman, great-niece, Vicky (John) Staehler, great-niece, Sheri (Dale) Applebee, great-nephew, Jim (Donna) Warner, of Eau Clare great-great niece, Kaitlyn Conger, of Milton, great-great nephew, Aiden Conger, of Milton. and their mother, Kelly Conger, and also a devoted, special friend, Clara Dorsey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, sisters, Leona Salty, Rose Laatsch, Josephine Mc Auley, nephews, Jerry (Geraldine) Warner, Richard Warner, Larry Ebel, great-niece and God Child, Cathy Wendler, and beloved great-nephew and God Son, John Conger, of Milton, who she shared many fond memories with and especially enjoyed the happy times with him and her family.
Funeral services for Ethel will be held in the Poklasny Funeral Home (870 W. South Park) on Saturday September 13, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. William Van De Kreeke officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of services.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
