Florence M. Sarres' Obituary
Florence M. Sarres, age 90, of Oshkosh, beloved wife of the late Honorable James G. Sarres, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015. She was born on June 8, 1924 in Oshkosh, a daughter of the late August C. and Marie Kloiber Schulz. Florence married James G. Sarres on January 31, 1956 at St. John’s Catholic Church and also on May 20, 1964 in James’ church, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fond du Lac. James preceded her in death in 2005. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Oshkosh. She is survived by and her memory will be cherished by two sister-in-laws and ten very loved nieces, nephews and their children along with great,great nieces, nephews other relatives and many very dear friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carole M. Dolan; brothers, LaVerne E. and August J. Schulz. Florence was employed at the Oshkosh National Bank for twenty-two years, becoming the first woman bank officer, and developing a women’s dept. there. She was listed in Who’s Who of American Women in 1953. Through the years she has been a member or involved with the Women’s Catholic Order of Foresters, the Educational Committee of the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce Retail Credit Club, Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division, treasurer of the Oshkosh Community Concerts, member of the American Institute of Banking, Oshkosh Business Women’s Club, Oshkosh Catholic Women’s Club, Lawyer’s Wives of Winnebago County, Lawyer’s Wives of Wisconsin, League of Women Voters, National Association of Bank Women, friend of Park View, Senior Citizen’s German Class, Ladies Society of St. John’s Church, Member of the Philotochos Society of Fond du Lac. She is further a member of the US and Wis. LST Assn.’s, Military Veterans Museum and Old Glory Honor Flights. Most of all she cherished her friendships in the Golden Girls Club since the 1950’s. She was also richly rewarded by the friendship, love and affection of the Greek Orthodox people. Funeral services for Florence will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh, with the Rev. Fr. William Van DeKreeke officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery next to her beloved husband James. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of floral expressions, a memorial fund has been established for the Oshkosh Boys & Girls Club, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fond du Lac, or to the charity of one’s choice in Florence’s name.
