Gary L. McCarthy's Obituary
Gary L. McCarthy, age 63, of Oshkosh, passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from complications of adrenal cancer. He was born on July 8, 1949 in Oshkosh to Burleigh McCarthy and Jean (Kohls). Gary served his country in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division. He was then employed as a route driver for AirGas, Inc. for 35 years. Gary also drove for Oshkosh Cabulance. Gary was a loving and caring person. He made many friends in his travels and could always tell a great story. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and dogs.
Gary is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his very loving friend and care giver, Vicki Cook and her family; his father, Burleigh (Cheryl) McCarthy of Oshkosh; his mother, Jean (Pete) Moore of Oshkosh; sons, Matthew (Wendy) McCarthy of Oshkosh and Adam McCarthy of Mount Juliet, TN; and their mother, Nancy McCarthy of Oshkosh; a brother, Michael McCarthy of Sturgeon Bay; a sister, Kelly of Chicago; sisters, Sandy (Scott) Negendank of Oshkosh and Linda (Rick) Volkman of Palmer, Alaska. Missing their grandpa are Espen, Brayleigh and Aidan McCarthy. He is further survived by aunts and uncles, Darryl and Beverly McCarthy, Betty Losse, Dennis McCarthy and Joyce Gehring; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many very dear friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr. in Oshkosh. The Rev. Karen Jewel will officiate. Full military honors will follow the service. A time of visitation and support will be held for the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established.
