George S. "Corkey" Kuehn's Obituary
George S. “Corkey” Kuehn, age 95, of Oshkosh, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2014 at the Bethel Home. He was born on December 26, 1918 a son of the late Ernest and Mary (Mueller) Kuehn, he was the youngest of seven children. George married the former Lorraine Berger on July 4, 1921 and together they enjoyed 72 years of marriage. He was a life long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. George was a hard working man, delivering telegrams on a bicycle for Western Union, moving furniture for Retzloff Trucking, delivering flour for King Midas Flour, delivering beverages for Lee Beverage, and was most proud of being on the Oshkosh Fire Department, retiring as a Captain after 29 years of service. George loved to drive, so he and Lorraine traveled to all but three states. He was most excited about driving to the ocean shores in California. He loved it out west, watching old “cowboy” movies on TV, and visiting friends in Colorado. He also loved taking bus trips to casinos, where he always lost, but Lorraine won, so most of the time they came out even. Bingo was another love of George’s, where he worked on Bingo night at Sacred Heart Church for many years. He was a very proud man, especially of his modest home, and was always available to anyone who needed a helping hand. George is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his wife Lorraine of 72 years; two daughters, Karla (Corky) Abraham of Oshkosh and Carol Stephenson (friend, Bob Neitzel) of Springstead, WI; grandchildren, Jeff (friend, Julie Schamens) Abraham, Eric (Brenda) Abraham and Christi Emerson; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ashlyn and Austin Abraham, and Dawn Emerson. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Mary and John Neubauer; four brothers, Ernest Jr. (Emma), Clarence “Jack” (Lois), Harold “Dick” (Adeline) and Gilbert “Tubber” (Dolores); sisters, Clara (John) Wolf and Celial (William) Kister. George never thought he would live this long, but for his family, it still wasn’t long enough. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for George on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the corner of Knapp and 6th Streets in Oshkosh. The Rev. Fr. Matt Simonar as celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice in George’s name. The family wishes to thank both the Bethel Home, staff on 2 west and Affinity Visiting Nurses for the excellent care and concern that was extended to George and his family.
