George John Hohenwalter's Obituary
George J. "Chon" Hohenwalter, age 78, of Oshkosh, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Parkview Health Care Center. George was born on September 18, 1933 in Oshkosh, a son of the late George and Mary (Schuster) Hohenwalter. He served his country in the US Navy in Korea and married the former Ellen Jean Conger on July 31, 1965 in Oshkosh. George had worked for and retired from the City of Oshkosh after over 40 years of service. He was a long time active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oshkosh and had served on the property and grounds committee. He greatly enjoyed deer hunting and time spent with his family and many friends. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Ellen of 47 years; a son, Kevin (Barbara) ; two daughters, Jill Hohenwalter and Ruth (John) Marx, all of Oshkosh; a brother, Richard (Jane) of Oshkosh; three sisters, Janet Zarter of Oshkosh, Jayne (Al) McCormick of Appleton and Carol Schmidt of Oshkosh. He is further survived by neices, nephews, his mother-in-law, Ruth Conger and many dear friends including family friend, Jayne Liebenstein. He was preceded in death by a brother, James; brother-in-laws, Norman Zarter and Carl Schmidt; father-in-law, Harvey Conger. Funeral services for George will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Zion Lutheran Church, 400 N. Sawyer Street with the Reverend Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Burial will full military honors will follow in Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held for the Hohenwalter family at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established. The family wishes to thank the staff at Parkview Health Care Center for the wonderful care that was given to George over the past year.
