Gerald C. "Tonto" Binder's Obituary
Gerald C. “Tonto” Binder, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2023. He was born in Oshkosh on July 29, 1928, the second of three children to the late John and Esther (Tegelman) Binder. Jerry worked for Morgan Door Company until his retirement. Jerry cherished his 40 acres of land in Waushara County. He took great pride in his land and always had a good story to share. He and his grandson, Andy, hunted the land and had many adventures together. On July 23 1982, Jerry married Virginia Kimball. Together they enjoyed vacationing to visit family in Michigan and loved going to the casinos. He loved the thrill of scratch offs and always got so excited with a winning card.
Jerry's memory will be cherished by his stepson William (Cindy) Kimball, stepdaughter, April Steinfort, step grandchildren, Andrew (Stephanie) Steinfort, Erin (Bill) Howell, Kelly (Scott) Wittnebel, Jennifer (Kyle) Steinfort, Katie (Steve) Iseli, Scott (Tiffani) Kimball and Ryan Kimball; step great grandchildren, Teejay, Finn, Kylie, Alexander, Benjamin, Leona, Lawson, Twila, Johnathon and Jackson; three sisters in law, Vervaine Kimball, Gloria Ayers and Darlene Brunet. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia J. (Kimball) Binder, his step son, John E. Kimball; a brother, Ralph Binder and a sister, Irene Rieschl.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 1:30 pm in the Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, 2786 Algoma Blvd in Oshkosh. Deacon Pat Gelhar as officiant. A time of visitation will be held at the chapel from 1:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will follow in the cemetery. The family would like to thank ProMedica Hospice for the compassionate care of Jerry. We also would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at the Courtyard, especially Kathy, thank you for your kindness and compassion to Jerry and the family. Jerry loved his wife, his land, his food, casinos, WW II and the Civil War history. “I know more than the authors” he would say.
Jerry you were a blessing to our family. Your stories entertained us. Your incredible strength and endurance no matter what life brought you was an inspiration to us all. You will be sadly missed by all who loved you.
