Gerald "Joe" Loyal Straveler's Obituary
Gerald “Joe” Loyal Straveler, age 79, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2020 in Madison. Gerald was born on June 5, 1940 to the late Loyal and Wilma (Weisinger) Eastling. He married Evelyn Gillen on July 14, 1962 in Rosendale, WI. They have been happily married for 57 years.
Gerald joined the U.S. Army after high school. After the army he was a 57 year proud member of Laborers Local 330. He traveled the United States for pipeline and local building trades. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, wood carving, and sharing stories of his “oh no Joe” adventures. Gerald was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa. One of his greatest accomplishments was that he was one of the founding members of the Paynes Point Fish and Spearing Club.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife; Evelyn Straveler, two sons; William (Julie) Straveler and Bert Straveler, one daughter; Brenda (Timothy) Zentner, two brothers; Frank (Jinx) Straveler and Robert (Nancy) Straveler, one sister; Mabel Nyman, four grandchildren; Tiffany (Michael) Ebel, Bryson Straveler, Corey (Gena) Fritsch, and Shelby (Brandon) Guendel, and four great grandchildren; Claudia, Olive, Ezra, and Juniper. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service for Gerald will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2020 in Lake View Memorial Park Chapel, 2786 Algoma Blvd Oshkosh, WI 54901. Rev. Brad Dokken will be officiating. A time of visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Lake View Memorial Park with the burial to follow.
