Gerald "Red" R. Schroeder's Obituary
Gerald R. Schroeder, “RED,” age 86 of Oshkosh, died Monday, February 3, 2020 at Bethel Home in Oshkosh following a battle with cancer. He was born in Oshkosh on May 17, 1933, the son of the late Roland and Lucille Bent Schroeder. Gerald married Vivian Schatzley on March 7, 1953. Gerald was employed by American Excelsior, Gilbert Paper, and until the time of his retirement, at A.P. Nonweiler in Oshkosh. He had a great sense of adventure that included, in his younger years, water skiing, hunting, fishing, then snowmobiling and motorcycling. He once traveled all forty-eight contiguous states in a fourteen day period on a motorcycle, as well as making countless trips to South Dakota on the bike to Sturgis, and to meet his good friend Bob for cycle rides and cattle round ups. His last 5 years were spent taking care of his loving wife Vivian.
Gerald is survived by one son; Terry “Whimpy” (Diane) Schroeder, of Oshkosh, one grandson; Dominick (Suzette Fagan) Schroeder, Oshkosh, one brother; Tom (Sue) Schroeder, Neenah, and one sister; Carol Knox, Oshkosh, one sister-in-law; Patti Schroeder-Haase. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by one sister; Virginia (Edward) Abhold, one brother; Kenneth Schroeder, and one brother-in-law; Donald Knox.
Funeral services for Gerald will be held in Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home (865 S Westhaven) on Tuesday, February 11, at 11:00 AM with Lyn Zahorik celebrating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of services.
