Gertrude Voelkel's Obituary
Gertrude E. "Gert" Voelkel, age 74 of Oshkosh, passed away Saturday evening, November 15, 2008 in the Evergreen Retirement Community. On October 4, 1934 she was born in Escanaba, MI, the daughter of Lawrence and Florence (Dermin) Sherbinow. A graduate of Rock High School, Rock, MI, she was also a graduate of St. Luke's of Nursing in Marquette, MI. Gert worked for the Winnebago State Hospital and Resouce Center. She was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (St. Vincent's site), and was a member of the Lady Elks. Bowling, playing cards and going to casinos were among her hobbies. On May 26, 1956 she married Richard Voelkel in St. Vincent's Catholic Church by Msrg. Schorn. He survives along with one son: Rick (Cindy) Voelkel; her daughter: Mary Voelkel; her two granddaughters: Caitlyn and Amber Voelkel all of Oshkosh; her brother: Thomas (Louise) Sherbinow of Skandia, MI; her special friends: Marge Schock and Donna Sphatt both of Oshkosh; her in-laws: Rose Sherbinow in Nevada, Donna & Ed Bartow, Carol Paulick and Joan Voelkel all of Oshkosh. Her parents and two brothers: William and her twin: Gilbert preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Ave., with Deacon Pat Gelhar officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday in the funeral home. Online condolances may be made at: fissbillspoklasny.com
