Gloria Spatti Ganther's Obituary
Gloria Spatti Ganther Gloria Spatti Ganther died peacefully on June 20, 2015, at her home in Oshkosh after a 17 month battle with cancer. She was 74. Gloria is survived by her husband, Thomas; her daughter, Lisa (Craig) Herold; her son, Brian (Holly); her beloved grandchildren, Jack, Julia and Conrad Herold; and Serafina, Aida and Thomas Ganther; her brother, Raymond Spatti. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Bertolino and her daughter, Julie Ann. Gloria was born on March 18, 1941 in Gratacasolo, Italy, to Luigi and Pasqua Spatti. She came to America with her family in 1945, landing in New York harbor and settling in Indiana, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Indiana High School in 1959, she worked at First National Bank. In 1961 she set out for Washington, D.C. where she worked at Riggs National Bank and fell in love with Tom Ganther. Despite the fact that he wasn’t Italian, Tom was accepted into the family and they married on April 15, 1967 at Holy Trinity Church in Washington, D.C. Gloria and Tom moved to the Midwest in 1968 and raised three children in Oshkosh, teaching them the values of hard work, self-reliance, and the importance of standing up for yourself. Gloria was an endlessly curious and insightful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She loved to socialize and entertain, and had a great love of travel, the performing arts, music, movies and books. She was a foodie before there were foodies. She delighted in the lives and talents of her six grandchildren, and spoke proudly of them often. Gloria was an active and dedicated volunteer at the Oshkosh Area Community Pantry, Service League of Oshkosh, St. Peter School and Lourdes Academy. In less official capacities, she was a positive influence in the lives of many in the community. She was a member of St. Peter’s Parish, St. Jude the Apostle Parish, the Oshkosh Country Club and the Wine Ladies. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Gloria on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Jude Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, corner of Knapp St. and 6th Avenue in Oshkosh. The Rev.
