Grace Edna Schettl's Obituary
Grace E. Schettl, age 99, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2017, at Evergreen where she resided for 5 1/2 years. She was born in Arpin, WI, to Emil and Ida (Besaw) Martin on May 27, 1918. Grace married Joseph F. Schettl on June 29, 1940, at St. John's Catholic Church, Oshkosh. They were married for 52 years before he passed away.
She is survived by her two children: Susan (Gary) Rand and Donald (Cheryl) Schettl; her six grandchildren: Timothy (Carrie) Rand, Thomas (Cathy) Rand, Teri (Frank) Meating, Tracey (Rob) Schneider, Sarah (Brett) Smits, and Carrie Meyer; and her great-grandchildren: Jacob and Katie Rand, Jenna Schneider, Hannah and Emily Salzsieder, Marcus, Josh and Ben Meyer, Grace and Colon Meating, and Breana, Meagan, and Will Smits. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Grace Hagene and Nancy Schettl, and many caring nieces and nephews.
Grace will be missed dearly by her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and caring grandmother and great-grandmother. While Joe was alive they spent a lot of time at their cottage on Bishop Lake and enjoyed it when their children and grandchildren would visit.
Grace was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She volunteered cleaning the church and was a member of the Legion of Mary.
After graduating from high school, Grace worked at The Heidel House, Deltox, Miles Kimball, and UWO. Wherever she worked, she was loved by all and had a great sense of humor.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Deloris Stutz, and brothers, Wesley and Clair Martin.
While at Evergreen, Grace met some very nice people at the Wednesday communion service and Friday rosary group.
We would like to thank the staff at Evergreen for all the love and care they gave to her as her dementia worsened.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Evergreen or Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at St. Jude Apostle Catholic Church (Sacred Heart Church) at 11 am. Father Matt Simonar will be the celebrant. Family and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10 am until the hour of Mass.
