Gregory R. Herdina's Obituary
Gregory R. Herdina, 84, of Oshkosh, passed away on Monday, January 18th from complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Greg was born on February 11, 1936 to the late Walter E. and Anna C. (Jungwirth) Herdina. He attended St. Vincent grade school, Oshkosh High School, and two years at Oshkosh State College, now UW-Oshkosh.
On October 21, 1961, Greg married Carol M. Garbe at St. Vincent church - now St. Jude the Apostle Parish. Greg and Carol have three children. Son Michael (Angela) of Ringle, WI, son Christopher of Oshkosh, and daughter Dr. Lynne (Jeff) Kunitz of Issaquah, WA.
Greg retired from Castle Pierce Printing after 41 ½ years, thirty of which he was a Linotype Operator.
Greg and Carol owned a cabin and land in Marinette County in the Crivitz area. He was a member of Trees For Tomorrow, American Tree Farm System, and Wisconsin Woodland Owners. Their son Mike has taken over now.
Greg was a member of the Oshkosh Racing Pigeon Club, Club 13, Dartball and Bowling Leagues, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Greg also liked sports. He was a Green Bay Packer season ticket holder and loved to cheer on the White Sox and the Brewers. He was a lifetime member of St. Jude Parish (St. Vincent’s) where he was an Usher for many years.
Greg is survived by his wife Carol of 59 years, his children, and 4 grandchildren Stephanie (Bradley) Selle, Jennifer (Michael) Hitt, and Eli and Caroline Kunitz; as well as 2 great grandchildren Bayley Selle and Jerome Hitt. Other surviving family members include brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard (Irene) Garbe and numerous nieces and nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Victor and Josephine Garbe, sister and brother-in-law Joyce (Burton) Hoeft, sister and brother-in-law June (Edward) Dugenski, and brother and sister-in-law Walter W. (Bernice) Herdina.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Eden Meadows and Bethel Home for all of their compassion and wonderful care.
Per Greg’s wishes, a private service will be held at a later date for immediate family.
