Harold J. Schettl's Obituary
Harold John Schettl, age 81 of Oshkosh, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 2009 in the Mercy Medical Center. On December 2, 1927 he was born in Oshkosh, the son of John and Mary (Kellerman) Schettl. Harold worked for AT&T for 38-1/2 years. He was a lifelong member of Telephone Pioneers and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also a 34 year member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Harold greatly enjoyed hunting, especially rabbits, deer and pheasants, and he also enjoyed playing Blackjack and Poker. Fishing was also among his favorite hobbies. During the Korean War he served with the U.S. Army. On October 11, 1952 he married Loretta M. Siradas. She preceded him in death on October 25, 1989.
Survivors include one son: Jeffery (special friend: Barb Hartman) Schettl of Oshkosh; one daughter: Lynda Schettl of Phoenix, AZ; one brother: Thomas Schettl of Pine River; one niece: Vicky Schettl of Pine River and one nephew: Tom Schettl of Oshkosh. Besides his wife, Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law: Marilyn Schettl and a special friend: Elaine Holdrin in 2006.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2009 in the St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (Sacred Heart site), on the corner of Knapp Street and 6th Ave., with Rev. Fr. Thomas Reynebeau and Rev. Fr. William Van De Kreeke as con-celebrants. Entombment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Friends may greet the family from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 17, 2009 in Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Ave., Oshkosh with a Prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be held fom 10-11 a.m., Monday in the church.
