Harry J. "Red" Oestreich's Obituary
Harry J. “Red” Oestreich, age 90, of Oshkosh, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. He was born on May 11, 1924 in Oshkosh, a son of the late Walter and Ida (Zimmerman) Oestreich. Harry married Delores Kutzleb on May 10, 2001. He proudly served his country in WW II in the US Army Air Force and received the distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters. He flew 35 missions in a B-17 over Europe. He had owned and operated Red’s Penny Bar and Red’s Place on Parkway Ave. and had also worked on the Oshkosh Police Department and was the past president of the Protective Association. He was also a member of the VFW Post 1908. He greatly enjoyed animals his entire life and reading the Bible, watching TV, making small furniture and playing cutthroat rummy.
He is survived by and his memory will be cherished by his wife, Delores of Oshkosh; four daughters, Dawn (Gary) Lux of Oshkosh, Ann Lori (Jim) Landerth of Waupun, Julie (Robert) Fearl, of Oshkosh and Gwen (Doyce Warburton) Goddard, also of Oshkosh. He is further survived by numerous grand and great-grandchildren, step children, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Dan; a sister, Lorraine Pitzen.
Funeral services for Red will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Poklasny Funeral Home, 870 W. South Park Ave. with the Rev. Jennifer Czarnota officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Lake View Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established. “Honey I love you a bushel and a peck”
