Helen Lois Nash (Pat) Wiley 1923-2015 Helen Lois Nash (Pat) Wiley passed into the arms of Our Lord on June 5, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center, Oshkosh, Wisconsin with her husband by her side. Born to a pioneer family in Winona, Minnesota on April 29, 1923 she was the only child of country veterinarian Dr. Edward and Helen (Hoch) Nash. Pat was a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants through her ancestor Pilgrim leader William Bradford. She was raised in and attended Arcadia, WI schools and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1941. Pat graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing and Viterbo College as a Registered Nurse in 1944. She enlisted as a nurse in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1945 and served as a lieutenant at Davis Monthan Air Base in Arizona, Fairmount B-29 Base in Nebraska, and was discharged at Sioux Falls Air Force Base after her service “taking care of our boys.” On September 5, 1946 she married Guilford M. (Bud) Wiley Jr in Arcadia, WI. Her post military nursing career included private duty in Madison, WI, the Veterans Hospital in Wood, WI (where her husband was treated for tuberculosis for 5 ½ years), as well as volunteer nursing in Oshkosh, WI where she moved with her husband in 1956. Pat was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Oshkosh community for 59 years Pat was a devoted Wife, loving Mother and Grandmother, faithful Friend, proud Veteran, and enthusiastic Dancer who put others’ welfare ahead of her own. She was particularly interested in nutrition and maintained a healthy and active lifestyle all her life. She loved music (especially Big Band Swing!), helping others, traveling, socializing, new adventures and being with her family and friends. Pat helped start and was an active member of Gourmet Club and Edgewater Social Club for many years. After retirement, she and Bud spent the winter months in Florida and traveling for 25 years. For the past 4 years she and Bud resided in a home on the Evergreen Retirement Center campus. Pat is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Bud, and by her sons Douglas Edward Wiley (Atlanta, GA; Barbara) and Michael Jay Wiley (Minneapolis, MN; Jane) and 5 grandchildren—Alex (Austin, TX), Emma (Atlanta, GA), Lauren, (Minneapolis, MN) Bridget (Oshkosh, WI), and Cullen Wiley (Minneapolis, MN).
