Helen Lorraine Wittenberg's Obituary
Ms. Helen Lorraine Wittenberg, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025 at Aurora Hospital in Oshkosh, WI.
Helen was born to Charles and Hedy Studinka on June 18th, 1930 in Chicago, IL. Helen was a trained, professional secretary; graduate of Jones Commercial business college. She worked in this capacity for several firms in Chicago including the Chicago Board of Education. She enjoyed dancing and met her future husband, Edward Wittenberg, at the Aragon Ballroom in Uptown Chicago. They were married in October 1948. Their two children, Robert and Betty Jean (BJ), were born in 1953 and 1955, respectively. In 1960, the Wittenberg family moved to Oshkosh where Helen had spent many previous summer vacations with her parents. In Oshkosh, Helen was employed at the offices of Robert Baird and subsequently, at the Hoffmaster Corporation for 16 years. In 1989 she achieved a life-long goal; attained a Baccalaureate of Arts Degree in Communications at University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. Ed and Helen enjoyed dancing as members of local Square Dance and Round Dance Clubs, as well as, fishing on Lake Winnebago. They were also avid card players and members of a Contract-Bridge Card Club.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents; Charles (1955) and Hedy (1952), and by her husband, Edward (1997). She is survived by her son Robert (Gwen) – Nampa, ID, daughter BJ (Pat), grandchildren Adam Wittenberg (Stacey) - Appleton, Justin Wittenberg (Rebecca) - Fond du Lac, Jake Nerenhausen (Desiree and great granddaughter Theo) - Oshkosh, Jesse Nerenhausen – Oshkosh, Amy Wittenberg (Gonzalo and grandsons Julian & Sebastien)- Kensington, MD, and Abby McLamb (Jason)- New Been, NC.
Helen’s Memorial service will be held Friday, February 28th at Zion Lutheran Church, 400 N Sawyer St, Oshkosh with Rev. Jeff Knolls officiating. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by brief service at 11:00 a.m. The Wittenberg family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Aurora Hospital in Oshkosh and The Residence at Oshkosh (senior living facility) for their attentiveness and loving care.
