HENRY V KRIHA's Obituary
Henry Victor “Hank” Kriha, age 99, of Oshkosh, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born in Oshkosh to Rudolph and Mary (Hercik) Kriha on July 15, 1919, and was one of ten siblings.
Henry joined the US Army National Guard on April 18, 1941 and served through September 28, 1945. He fought in New Guinea in WWII as part of the 32nd Red Arrow Division of the 127th Infantry. Following the war, he drove milk truck for City View Dairy. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Adeline.
Henry married Adeline (Rushkofske) Kriha in Oshkosh on August 23, 1947. Together they had two children, Marla and Steve. Henry worked for King Midas Flour, Valley Baker Supply, and UW Oshkosh from where he retired.
Henry was an avid gardener and had a love for cooking. He was known for his sauerkraut, homemade wine, and liver sausage. Henry enjoyed playing cribbage and would never turn down a game. He played in tournaments, with friends, and with family. Henry also loved hunting and fishing on Lake Butte des Morts with his son. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish in Oshkosh, and received all of his sacraments there.
Henry is survived by his daughter Marla (Dave) Sutherland, son Steve (Becky Venne) Kriha, grandchildren Paula (Bruce) Betzold, Tracy Beyer, Sarah (Mark) Martin Kriha, and Stephanie (Aaron) Kriha-Staskiewicz. He is further survived by six great-grandchildren Kaitlyn (David) Simon, Matthew Betzold, Grace Betzold, Kyle Brophy, Kevin Brophy, and Atlas Martin Kriha. He is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Beverly Gade and Eva Timm. He was preceded in death by his wife Adeline Kriha, daughter-in-law Kathy Kriha, his parents, all of his siblings, many family and friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at King Veteran’s Home for the loving care provided to Henry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday November 17, at 10:30 AM in St Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (Sacred Heart site corner of 6th and Knapp) with the Rev. Louis Golamari officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the hour of services.
