Hobart R. "Gummy" Griswold's Obituary
Hobart R. "Gummy" Griswold, age 80, of Oshkosh, passed away Friday evening, July 10, 2009 in the Aurora Medical Center. On July 28, 1928 he was born in Oshkosh, the son of Hobart and Lenora (Dunn) Griswold. He worked for Block Iron and Supply as a crane operator for 34 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on small engines in his garage and going out for breakfast. Hobart was also a member of the American Legion. On September 29, 1945 he married June Mary Ann Wagner. She passed away on February 15, 1982. Then he married Alice Long on February 20, 1988. She passed away on October 1, 2003.
His memory will be cherished by his sons: Jack Griswold of Park Falls, WI; Steve (Peggy) Griswold, Jeff Griswold and David Griswold all of Oshkosh; his daughter: Kathy (Don) Jolin of Oshkosh; his step-daughter: Teena (Scott) Thums of Omro; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; his brothers: Earl (Kathy) Griswold, Oshkosh, Lymon Griswold of Joliet, IL; Ronald Griswold of Oshkosh; Barbara (Merwayne) Peterson of Oshkosh. Besides his wives, Hobart was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Richard; one daughter: Patricia; four brothers: Sylvester, Garrett, Merrill, Robert and three sisters: Margaret Hoarse, Viola Schneider and Vione Nowland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in the Fiss and Bills Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Dr. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery with full military honors. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Friends may greet the family from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in the funeral home and again from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.
The family will like to extend a special thank you to the Aurora Medical Center. the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center and Radiation oncology. Also thanks to Drs. Knier, Dar and M. Anderson and the staff in ICU for the care the gave their Dad and to his special granddaughter: Tracy Bliske who helped him through everything.
