To Irene's family & and friends -
Irene and I became correspondents accidentally, when our family received a holiday card by mistake. I couldn't find the proper address for the intended recipient, so I returned to sender along with our holiday letter. She responded with a sweet note, and I had my first penpal in many years!
Each December, I've enjoyed exchanging cards and notes with Irene, even though we never met in person. She shared how much she looked forward to seeing her family at Christmas gatherings and gave brief updates about her life.
My card was returned to sender this year, and that is how I found this site. I will always fondly remember my penpal Irene. May her memory be a blessing. I know you will miss her this Christmas, and always.

Dear Rob and Siblings; so sorry to hear about your moms passing. She is the one that introduced me to your father and he was instrumental in shaping my career in radio. I remember chatting with Irene in the lunchroom at Oshkosh North and she knew I had an interest in broadcasting. She said maybe you should meet my husband. I said who's he? The rest is history as we often say. Her obituary shared so much that I didn't know about her, not that I knew much. I did know she was a woman of faith and that was very important to this young man while in high school. May you treasure the memories, I know I will. Paul Cameron Oshkosh North grad 1976 and then from UW-Oshkosh in 1980 with a Radio/TV-Film degree. Currently Chief Operating Officer at The Family Radio Network, Appleton, WI.

What an honor to have known Doc and Irene! I graduated from UW Oshkosh and Doc Snyder's Radio-TV-Film program in 1972. He was an extremely significant influence on my life, personally and professionally, and I had the pleasure of meeting Irene on several occasions. I was concerned this past Christmas when we did not receive her customary card and friendly note; we always looked forward to her kind words. Irene's list of countries visited should have included Belgium as she and Doc visited us there when I was stationed (Air Force) with NATO's military headquarters from 1990-93. She and Doc stayed with us for several days, then we drove them through Luxembourg to Kaiserslautern, Germany, and helped them board a train for more European destinations. That's a very fond memory. Doc and Irene are pillars of the university and will continue to be a presence for many years to come.
