Jacob "Jake" A. Kaufmann's Obituary
Jacob A. "Jake" Kaufmann, age 94, of Oshkosh, passed away on June 28, 2012 at the Bethel Home in Oshkosh. He was born on November 9, 1914 in Canada, a son of the late Leopold and Catherine (Freuen) Kaufmann. He married Genevieve Dlugolenski on May 4, 1940 in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on March 28, 2012. Jake served in the US Army during WW II. He was a lifetime member of St. Josaphat Catholic Church and was currently a member of St. Jude the Apostle Parish. He had worked for and retired from the City of Oshkosh as a bus driver after 30 years of service and he also had worked for the Northwestern Railroad. Jake served as an alderman at one time and greatly enjoyed bowling, cribbage, cards, the casinos with Genevieve, time spent with his family and was an avid Packer fan.
His memory will be cherished by two sons, Richard (Donna) of Oshkosh and Paul (Amy) of Rio, Wisconsin; a brother, Denis of Oshkosh; two sisters, Sr. Leopold Kaufmann and Sr. Catherine Kaufmann; nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Jayne Kaufmann; other relatives and many very dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; siblings, Tony, Elizabeth and Isabelle; a grandson, Christopher Kaufmann and a great-grandson, Kyle Kaufmann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jake on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Josaphat Catholic Church, the corner of Walnut and Congress Avenues in Oshkosh. The Rev. Fr. Matt Simonar will celebrate. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until the tiime of Mass. The family would like to thank the staff of 1 east at the Bethel Home for the excellent care that was given to both Genevieve and Jacob while they resided there. A memorial fund will be established.
