James J. Emerson's Obituary
James J. Emerson, age 83 of Oshkosh, passed away Sunday evening, September 20, 2009 in the Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh after a year-long battle with cancer. On May 24, 1926 he was born in Herman Township, WI, the son of Julius and Viola (Stroud) Emerson. On December 21, 1946 he married Regina Harrington in Madison. For 48 years Jim worked for Monroe Calculating Machines in Oshkosh. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS LSM 79 as a radioman from 1944 to 1946. He also served in Japan and in the Philippines. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting and raising show pigeons with the Pigeon Clubs for 46 years were among his hobbies. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Left to celebrate his life is his wife of 62 years: Regina of Oshkosh; one son: James Emerson of Oshkosh; two daughters: Kathy (Terry) Timm of Appleton and Jackie (Jay) Paulson of Oshkosh and; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and one on the way; one half-sister: Linda (Ronald) Lauritzon in Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Steven, two sisters: Belva and Donna and one brother: Duane.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2009 in the St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (Sacred Heart site), on the corner of Knapp Street and 6th Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Thomas Reynebeau as celebrant. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery with full military rites. Friends may greet the family from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009 in Fiss & Bills Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Drive and from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday in the church. A luncheon will follow the burial in the school gym at St. Jude the Apostle Church.
